People’s Rally for Reform—Hopefully it will not snow!!

February 16th, 2010

Neighbors and Friends,

Finally it looks like we may have a Saturday without a massive snow storm. Once again BMore United is working to organize a rally for reform on Saturday February 20, 2010. I hope that all of you will attend the Rally for Reform this Saturday from 2-3pm in front of city hall. This a chance for all of us to stand together to let our elected officials know that we will no longer tolerate ineffective and corrupt leadership. We must remind them that they work for us and that they should base their decisions on our best and common interests. Please go to the address below to read an article that discusses the rally.

I have attached a PDF of Rally poster-please send to all of your contacts, post on our facebook and twitter pages.

Make no mistake- just as the present is unacceptable for so many of Baltimore’s citizens, if we do not stand together now our future is at risk. One hour of your time on Saturday can help change Baltimore! Please pass this along to all contacts. See you there!

Rally Cancelled (Again)

February 11th, 2010

Once again the weather is going to lead us to cancel the People’s Rally for Reform for this Saturday. I would like to say that we are rescheduling for next Saturday but I am going to wait and see what the weather does. I will update early next week. Thanks!

Rally for Reform postponed until Saturday February 13th at 2pm

February 6th, 2010

Hello All,
This is the first storm since 2003 that actual lived up to its billing. I cannot in good conscience ask anyone to attend today’s rally for reform at 2pm. We will have another next Saturday at 2pm in front of city hall. I will still be at city hall today at 2pm if anyone can make it. ONLY come if you can safely walk to city hall.

Please help us get the word out for next week. This week we handed out 1000 flyers, made on Fox 45 news, Ed Norris, Investigative voice, Darren Muhammed’s show, Larry Young and others. This week lets get out 2000 flyers and really pass the event around Facebook, Twitter and within our friend networks. Thanks!!! Maybe I’ll see you at 2pm. It would be amazing to show a bunch of people in the snow.

Please check on your neighbors that are elderly or who do not have transportation to make sure that they have adequate water and food to last until the storm clears.

Thanks,

Rally for Saturday at 2pm regardless of weather

February 4th, 2010

Neighbors and Friends,

I hope that all of you will attend Bmore United’s Rally for Reform this Saturday at 2pm in front of city hall. This a chance for all of us to stand together to let our elected officials know that we will no longer tolerate ineffective and corrupt leadership. We must remind them that they work for us and that they should base their decisions on our best and common interests. Please go to the address below to read an article that discusses the rally.

Saturday’s Rally WILL NOT be canceled no matter what the weather. If the post office can deliver the mail rain, sleet or snow then we can stand up for our communities, our children and our future in the snow. Make no mistake- just as the present is unacceptable for so many of Baltimore’s citizens, if we do not stand together now our future is at risk. One hour of your time on Saturday can help change Baltimore! Please pass this along to all contacts. See you there!

Message From the Founders

BMoreUnired.Org was founded on December 11, 2009 by Christopher Taylor and Robert Giroux as a response to the unjustified arrest of Mr. Taylor on the steps of his home in West Baltimore.

The incident highlighted the need for an examination of the meaning of community policing and the policies of a zero tolerance law enforcement approach. In an effort to host a community dialogue on these issues, BMU has created its first outreach project entitled ‘21223…Respect me.’

The goals of the project are simple: listen to the stories of the community regarding current police interactions with our community, engage the police department concerning tactics unfit for our community, and monitor police, on a local level, to ensure compliance with existing policy concerning professional behavior.

To better understand the meaning of ‘tactics unfit for our community’ within the context of the outreach project, BMU offers the following three immediate areas of concern:

Abusive Language

Language used by police officers which is offensive in meaning, tone, and utterance. Profanity, racial slurs, sexist terms, and words used to demean only.

Excessive Force

Once in handcuffs, a person should not be hit, slapped, kicked, beaten, or clubbed. It’s that simple and on this issue BMU adopts a zero tolerance policy.

Harassment

Unwarranted physical and verbal contact with a member of our community while on duty. In particular people of color, women, and teenagers.

We ask that those who read this message prepare a statement for submission to the Community section of this website. Please tell BMU of your recent or past experience regarding the initial three (3) areas of concern with the police department.

We look forward to your stories in the Community Section of BMU, your insights as the Project progresses, and your most valued support.

Thank you for your commitment to unity.

With peace,

Christopher Taylor
